Maroon coloured endpapers. Black and white illustrated frontispiece by Will Dyson. Within the text there are 23 black and white illustrations by Will Dyson. Grey coloured boards with gilt coloured titles on the spine. Illustrated dustwrapper, again by Will Dyson called "Reinforcements", with bone coloured background and blackcoloured titles on the front panel and spine. Sepia toned photograph of the author to the rear fold over panel. Bill Harney went off to World War I during a particularly hard time in the Queensland bush, on the basis of "anything's better than this". What he saw and experienced during World War I, was so mind searing, it was 40 years before he could tell of his experiences, this book is his remembrances. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with a little rubbing of the book corners. There is a rubber stamp to the top right hand corner of the half title page and rear fold over panel stating "Brighton Tech School, Copy No ...., Humanities Department" – neither stamp has been filled in. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and creasing is also present. Fading of the back strip, top dustwrapper edge, right hand edge of the rear panel and left hand edge of the front panel. There is 1/2 inch tear to the top left hand corner of the rear panel and a tear to the top back strip edge has been repaired by tape, tape still in situ – to the front side of the dustwrapper. .
