The text is illustrated with black and white photography, black and white reproductions of contemporary prints, 4 maps, and text illustrations. The endpapers are illustrated with 2 soldiers, one from WWI, and the other from WWII with a grid maps of Poziers and Kokoda as a backgrund. Green boards with gilt illustration on front cover and gilt writing on spine. There is a black and white frontispiece showing a scene from the Maori Wars. The corners are rubbed and slightly bumped and there is shelf wear evident on bottom edge of the book. The paper edges are very browned and have some dust marks and the odd grubby mark also. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a scene at Gallipoli. The dustwrapper is faded and rubbed and there are small creases and chips along both edges, and some loss. . "An anthology of true life stories from many wars, told by Australians who served in New Zealand, the Sudan, South Africa,, China, Mesopotamia, Gallipoli, Palestine, France, North Africa, Crete, Malaya and New Guinea.".
