The author was the founder of Olympia press, succeeding his father's publishing company Obelisk Press, the Paris publishing house to which so many talented 20th-century writers gravitated when their works were considered too scandalous that everyone else. – William Burroughs – Samuel Beckett – Donleavy – Terry Southern – Nabokov etc. His father was first to publish Henry Miller, Anais Nin, Lawrence Durrell, and Frank Harris, and these literary giants were frequently houseguests when he was a young boy. This is the first of a project of 3 parts autobiography telling in this volume of his childhood and adolescence in Paris between the wars.
