The text is illustrated with both black-and-white photography and contemporary illustrations throughout . Green coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. The story of the two eldest sons of John and Elizabeth Macarthur Edward and John Junior who were sent to England in the early part of the 19th century for education. John became a barrister and never returned to Australia. He was, however, influential at the Colonial Office and was consulted on matters dealing with the colony of New South Wales. He died, aged 36. Edward, on the other hand, did return to Australia on numerous occasions and was suspected to be heavily involved in the Rum Rebellion (never proven) and became a professional soldier. He saw service during the Napoleonic Wars, came back to Australia and joined the British regiments stationed here, was in Ballarat when the Eureka Rebellion occurred and eventually was appointed Officer in Command of the Troops in Australia. He died in England in 1872 with the age of 83. Softening to the lower backstrip edge and rubbing to the backstrip corners and to the book corners and lower book edge.
