Dark maroon coloured cloth covered boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Pale red coloured tint to the top text block edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, being the publisher's colophon against a orange coloured background with black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. A book that was first published in 1834. A novel about the last days of Pompeii before it was destroyed by Vesuvius. Collins Pocket Classic series -- number 55. Softening to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and rubbing to the lower book edges. Browning to the textblock edges and of the internal pages. Previous owners rubber stamp to the top right-hand corner of the front paste-down. A paint splash (white) to the top left-hand corner of the front panel. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the head and to the heel of the backstrip. Sunning of the backstrip and to the verso of the dustwrapper.
