preface by author, note, and index. Purple coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Plain text dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. A series of lectures given by the author at Oxford in 1960. In it, and the lectures, he described some of the forces which created what we call "Victorian England". Softening and browning of the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book corners. The spine is somewhat cocked. Browning and foxing of the textblock edges and light age toning of the internal pages. Foxing and offset tanning to the endpapers and previous owner's name to the top edge of the free front end page. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges along with browning. Sunning to the backstrip and the laminate has started to lift on the front dustwrapper panel side of the backstrip. A few marks and scores to the dustwrapper with a fee foxing spots to the verso of the dustwrapper. There is a 0.5 " tear to the lower edge of the front dustwrapper panel.
