530 g.; VIII, 9-256 pages, introduction by author, list of illustrations and index. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece of Viscount Addison. The text is illustrated with 17 pages of black-and-white photographs throughout the text. The text is also illustrated the occasional contemporary cartoon. Dark red coloured cloth boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. A little bumping to the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book corners. A few dust marks to the top and bottom book edges and light marks to the top text block edge. Light age toning of the internal text. Plain text dustwrapper with blue background with white and gray titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and a little chipping of the top dustwrapper corners and backstrip and rubbing to the lower dustwrapper edge. Rubbing and slight fading of the book panels and yellowing of the rear dustwrapper panel and fold over panels. There are multiple creases that run the full length of the front fold over panel. The biography of Viscount Addison, who though reluctant to accept a peerage, became one of the most important labour Lords during the years 1945 to 195,1 in seeing that entire reform programme of the Labour government passed the upper house. Though this was important in itself, these reform programmes were the last in a long and distinguished public service life. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
