The text is illustrated with 25 black-and-white photographs and seven sketch maps and diagrams within the text. Yellow coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured illustration of a Asian man carrying baskets on his shoulder, with black coloured titles to the backstrip. At the rear there is a foldout map, complete, showing North-West Yunnan, showing the route followed by the authors in May-September 1922. A little bumping rubbing and fraying to the top and bottom backstrip edges and bumping to the book corners. Fading to the backstrip. A little darkening of the book panels. Dust marks, browning and a few foxing spots to the top text block edge and browning to the other text block edges. Foxing to the lower edge of the text block. Browning and offset tanning to the endpapers and lighter browning and the occasional foxing spot within the text. Previous owner's name to the top edge of the free front end paper. There is a small, 0.25 ", split to the top edge of the front hinge. There is a 1.5 " tear to the top hinge of the fold out map.
