VI, 248 pages, two pages following further books from a publishing house. Tan coloured boards with gilt illustration to the lower half of the front panel and blue titles to the backstrip. Orange coloured tint to the top text block edge. This book is a first British edition, the first American edition being published in 1960. Bumping and rubbing along with a little fading to the backstrip edges and to the book corners. Shelf wear to the lower book edges. Flecking to the edges of the book. Foxing spots to the book panels and browning to the backstrip. The front board is bowed. Browning and foxing to the text block edges. Browning and faint foxing along with some marks to the endpapers and foxing and browning to the internal pages. Previous owner has placed an inscription to the lower right-hand corner of the free front end paper. Illustrated dustwrapper (wraparound), by Dennis Wrigley, with black and blue titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the head and to the heel of the backstrip. Rubbing TV fold over creases and to either side of the backstrip. Darkening to the backstrip and the other panels have become slightly scuffed. Rust stain to the lower right-hand corner of the front fold over panel. Browning to the verso of the dustwrapper and there is sustained to the top edge of the front panel, three quarters of the width by 1 inch deep. Novel of Jugger and his fight with the good people of Crater Village, New York State. For Jugger has spent ".... thirty-five [ years] resolutely out of work and consistently in drink, proud, tough and independent, living on poached game and any movable property that has been left lying around." -- from the front fold over panel, but now the townspeople want him to go in to an old people's home.
