The text is copiously illustrated (176 in all) with either black and white illustrations or photographs, and line drawings. Blue coloured boards with gilt Thames and Hudson 'logo' on the front panel and gilt writing on the spine. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and to the bottom edges of the book as well. Dust marks to the top paper edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing "soldiers drilling by J.A. Atkinson" with black writing on the front panel and white on the spine. Minor creasing and rubbing to the top dustwrapper edge. "In a wide-ranging account Major Haswell sketches the medieval background but concentrates on the 300 years of the regular army, leading up to its role in the 1970s.". Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall.
