Quarto, iv, 438; iv, 470, red cloth boards half-bound in red morocco with gilt lettering to spine, sheet music on tissue bound in, illustrated but lacking the fashion plates that make Godey's so desirable, former owner's name on a front blank. Contains the six-page, double-column first printing of the Edgar Allan Poe story Mellonta Tauta, which is set aboard a hot-air balloon a thousand years in the future. (Poe's work frequently debuted in Godey's and other magazines.) Condition of this book: Front cover and preliminaries detached, heavy wear to covers, endpages soiled, little foxing. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
