Three major conflicts, spanning almost fifty years, linked by one man's experiences and knowledge. John Harper-Nelson served in Italy in World War II as an officer in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. After the war he transferred to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and served in various countries. His account of the situation in Palestine after World War II is from his knowledge of that regiment's involvement. Recently he discovered the diaries of his surgeon father, serving in (then) Mesopotamia, and found the references to the then position of Iraq and Palestine interesting in view of today's political turmoil in the area, and his own direct knowledge of post World War II Palestine and Israel. A very readable and historically important book from a prolific author ("A Need for Glory", "Oxford at War", "The Day They Came" and others). Includes interesting commentary on the activities of the little-documented US 92nd Negro Division operating in Italy during World War II.. The book includes the World War I diaries for 1914, 1915 and 1917 of Captain John Joseph Harper-Nelson I.M.S., including his account a survivor of the sinking of SS Persia. Limited, numbered and signed edition of 250 copies only. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting.
