Translated from the French by Frances Partridge. Vividly, and often lyrically, the author draws a superb picture of the customs, rituals, strength and weakness of a society weighed down by it's own traditions. The novel is about an important Bensaidi family in a small Algerian town, whose daughter attends a French lycee. She adopts the life of her fellow French students, and begins to criticise her life at home, which is substantially different. This is the first edition in the English language. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. No foxing in this copy. Dust Jacket is in very good condition, without tears or chips or other damage. Dust Jacket price-clipped. Edges very slightly spotted or marked. Multiple copies available this title.
