69 illustrations. Bath and several other English spas have been in existence at least since Roman days. Many other Spas had their origin in pre-Reformation Holy Wells. One hundred and fifty years ago literally hundreds of Spas, great and small, were in existence: Tunbridge, Bath, Cheltenham, Harrogate and Buxton are only the most famous of a series which included for example, Bagnigge, Islington, Sadler's Wells and Marylebone Gardens in London, and Malvern, Epsom, Matlock, Bristol Hot Wells and Leamington in the provinces. The numerous illustrations are from prints, paintings, portraits and old drawings and they have been taken from the originals in the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum and from many other public and private collections. 152 pages. Moderately foxed throughout. Dust jacket has rubbing and small tears to edges and corners and associated wear. Illustrated. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos.
