Original decorated brown paper over cardboard, a very thick 4to (8.5 x 11.75 in.), 356 pages plus numerous inserted plates and facsimiles, including some folding and in color, text in German. Text traces history and technology of lithography with examples. Paper is torn with pieces missing so that cardboard is exposed at corners, along some edges, and along spine; paper missing at top of spine for about 2", covers soiled moderately (back cover lightly). Interior is basically clean and tight, with only an occasional fingerprint smudge in a blank margin; plates, maps, etc. all in excellent condition.
