"This book is a complete collection of Newsletters distributed by the 2/23 Australian Infantary Battalion, "Albury's Own" from December 1940 on the way to the Middle East until the end of the war at Tarakan in August 1945. These were issued under the title of "Mud and Blood", a name coined from the battalion's colour patch - brown over red. The first two were printed by battalion members on a hand press brought from Australia for the purpose. Unfortunately this was lost in action in the Western Desert during the "stragegic withdrawl" (better known as the Benghasi Handicap) to Tobruk in April 1941, & when production again commenced it was by means of a typewriter & a duplicator..."
