Fisher Unwin on the limitation page; tissue-guarded b/w. frontis. illustration (showing English knights travelling August, 1399); Translated from the original French of Jusserand into English by Lucy Toulmin Smith; Jusserand explores all aspects of life on the road in 14th century England, using literature (Chaucer and other poets, popular ballads, and Piers Plowman), documentary evidence (including a lot of ecclesiastical and secular legal documents, as well as other surviving records), and period illustrations, to create a picture of the roads themselves, the people who travelled them, and how travel affected the country's social and political changes. Limited & Numbered Edition. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 451 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Slight foxing front/rear pages, but body of book mostly clean and unfoxed. no Dust Jacket as published.. Previous owner's small book-plate laid in. Deckled outer & bottom edges (rough cut).
