Half-leather with marbled boards; Primitive Methodism was a major movement in English Methodism from about 1810 until the Methodist Union in 1932.[1] The denomination emerged from a revival at Mow Cop in Staffordshire. 'Primitive' meant "simple" or "relating to an original stage"; the Primitive Methodists saw themselves as practising a purer form of Christianity, closer to the earliest Methodists. This bi-annual publication aimed at the younger generation contains articles; cautionary tales; & inspirational stories; together with numerous illustrations. First Thus. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 332 pages. small mark on text through pages 110-112 but all still readable. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Heavy foxing front/rear end-papers & some margins, but text & illustrations mostly clean and unfoxed. no Dust Jacket as published.. elaborate copperplate gift inscription (dated 1923) in red & black ink to front free end-paper. Gilt titles spine. Bumping & light wear to corners & edges; rear end-paper has been torn but rpaired with archiveal tape as has the inner border of one illustration. illustrated by b/w. woodcuts.
