336 pp., author's note, list of illustrations, sources of material, and index. Coloured endpapers. Coloured frontispiece, portrait of Daniel Mannix by Jack Cato. Text is illustrated with numerous black and white photographs from Dr Mannix's life. Grey coloured boards with gilt writing on spine. Corners slightly rubbed and bumped. The head and the heel of the spine are soft. Dust marks and slight foxing to the top paper edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, a portrait of Dr Mannix in old age, gilt writing on front panel and white on the spine. The corners are chipped and there is rubbing along the back fore edge, ugly tear at the top left of the front panel, split at the top of the front fold over, and rubbing and chipping at each of the other corners. This is the biography of Daniel Mannix, Archbishop of Melbourne -- sometimes compassionate and kindly, sometimes intolerant and rude even when the patient did not warrant it -- who believe that to be Irish was to be Catholic, and to be truly catholic was to be Irish. He could not imagine such a "peculiar thing" as an English Catholic. -- front fold over blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1.
