The dustwrapper has a 1.0 inch tear at the top left of the front panel, taped by the previous owner, and a 0.5 inch tear at the bottom left-hand corner of the rear panel similarly treated, and the spine of which has been faded from its original brown to an olive green. The author covers every aspect of restoration from crumbling foundations, fences and gardens to colour schemes, decorative tiles, plaster, cast-iron and lighting. Detailed photographs and sketches show the structural and decorative features use by Victorian and Edwardian architects and builders.
