The author traces the development of the theory and practice of individual combat from the earliest descriptions -- David and Goliath -- through the heyday of the sword fights with all the formality of its science, to the techniques used in the American West, in commando raids and in gang warfare. He examines the use of the Broadsword, the two hander, the rapier, the dagger, the bayonet, the halberd, the flail, the pistol, the machine gun and many other deadly weapons.
