Novel of the presidency, admittedly 50 years ago, the central figure is Billy Clelland, governor of one of the farming states in the middle west of America who has made a success of his governorship. Handsome, accessible, he conceals an inner ruthlessness in the conduct of the State's affair has beneath a hail fellow well met front of tolerance and affability. Now his name is being canvassed as a candidate for the presidency of the United States.
