235 g; XVIII, 150 pages, last three pages blank. The book resembles a paperback of modern construction, to which an oversized wrapper has been glued extending beyond the edges of the boards by approximately a quarter of an inch. This over wrapper has tipped to the front panel the title and author in a neat sticker, and similar to the spine. The spine section shows signs of handling and possible water damage, the left-hand margin and top margin of the front panel show the effects of sunning. Both the top and bottom edges of the extended border have small tears, and shows signs of creasing. The top edge of the text block shows foxing. The interior of the book is pleasantly clean and free of any damage aside from offset tanning opposite the tipped in photograph by May Moore of Mary Gilmore. Book plate of Arnold Gardner ( which is an illustration by Lionel Lindsay) on the front free end page. The book includes a three page introduction by the author accounting for the religious nature of these works. "This book is written in tribute to those who chose the religious -- and perhaps, too, with a latent hope that might help some who, outside the walls, ask for a word to cling to in a dark hour." -- from the introduction. Arnold Gardner, brother of Nancy Gordon the poet, was an important influence on her and one of the reasons why she wrote poetry. He published a number of poems in ‘The Age’ before World War 2 when he was killed in the fall of Singapore. Size: 12mo (Small Hardcover). Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Lionel Lindsay. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Poetry; Inventory No: 0219060.
