The biography of Joan Sutherland who after years of trial and tribulations became a household name after her triumphant portrayal of Lucia di Lammermoor at Covent Garden in 1959, and then the premier soprano of the world. Softening of the backstrip edges with bumping to the lower book corners and rubbing of the lower book edges. There is a stain to the lower edge of the rear panel. Browning and scattered foxing to the textblock edges and browning of the pages. Light foxing of the endpapers and original bookseller's rubber stamp to the lower edge of the free front end paper. Chipping to the backstrip edges and dustwrapper corners and there is a 'V' piece missing from the top left hand corner of the front panel please see photograph. Shifting to the fold over creases and to the spine titre edges. Rubbing of the dustwrapper panels and there is a staying to the lower edge of the rear panel which has led to the verso commensurate with staying on the book. Foxing to the verso of the dustwrapper, mostly in the fold over creases with some stains to the backstrip area. There is a 2 inch tear to the top right hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel, with associated creasing. There is a crease that runs the full length of the front fold over panel and two triangular creases to the rear fold over panel. Fading and marking to the backstrip.
