author's preface, foreword by James A. Farrell, President of the United States Steel Corporation to appendices and index. Illustrated endpapers, showing the various ships designed and built by Donald McKay. Coloured illustrated frontispiece, with tissue guard, showing the ship 'Sovereign of the Seas'. The text is illustrated with nine further coloured plates and 48 black-and-white photographs / illustrations. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Gilt to the top textblock edge. The title says it all, the American ship builder Donald McKay and his ships. This book is in TERRIBLE SHAPE. At some point in its previous existence it has come in contact with significant amount of moisture / water to the front fore edge (please see photographs) and water damage has effected the first inch, inch and a half of the pages, causing the paper had become somewhat brittle and friable. A previous owner has cut the affected edge to page 37. Some of the text, is a little difficult to read due to sticking of pages together. The cloth has retreated from the underlying board and there is fading, flecking, rubbing and other marks to the book panels. Watermarking, foxing and other stains to the paper edges and internal pages. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. [4], V - XXVII, 395, [1]pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: E.
