The publisher asked the author to choose from his body of endeavour a work to be the 500th book in the "The World's Classics" series. He chose Back to Methuselah, A play written just after World War I, 1921, where its deeply conservative author contended that, though, politicians reached an age to be proficient at golf and bridge, the ability to oversee a modern civilisation is quite beyond them. This play looks at this conundrum. The World's Classics series – 500. Softening to the backstrip with rubbing to the book corners and lower book edges.
