As Jesus hung dying on the cross, a Roman centurion – Longinus, pierced his side with a spear. The spear became the most sacred relic of its time, known as the "Holy Lance", with a mythology saying that "the whoever held the lance held the destiny of the world – for good or ill". The last known possessor of the sword was Adolf Hitler, and at the end of the war the United States Army returned the spear to the Hofberg Museum in Vienna. Or did they? The author travelled the world to ascertain this very fact. Or not . A faint reading crease to the backstrip and rubbing to the book panels. First softcover edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
