450 g.; (6), 7-217, (7) pages, preface by James Strachey stop red coloured cloth covered boards with black insert to the backstrip, and within that insert gilt decoration and titles. A little bumping and rubbing to the backstrip edges and to the book corners. Very light age toning of the text block edges and internal text. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a pair of old-fashioned spectacles against a gray coloured background with ochre and black titles to the front panel and backstrip. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges and rubbing to the dustwrapper panels. There is a small erosion to the top left-hand corner of the rear dustwrapper panel, probably commencement with removal of a sticker stop fading to the backstrip. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. A series of 35 essays, from more than 80, that were written by Lytton Strachey between 1904 and 1914 for The Spectator magazine.
