Colour illustrated the front cover with black and orange titles to the front panel and gilt titles to the backstrip. This book has been rebound: -- the front and rear boards are original but the backstrip and at the end papers are new. The original boards are very rubbed and there is a piece missing from the lower left-hand corner of the front panel and at the corners are rounded and underlying board is visible. The internal pages are brown and a few handling marks and foxing spots are visible. The first page of the original book and the last page show offset tanning. This book, was first published in 1878, and is recollections of the author as a policeman in Edinburgh in the middle part of the 19th century. Size: 12mo (standard paperback).
