The text is illustrated with 13 black-and-white pages of illustrations. Black coloured boards with self embossed black illustration on front panel with gilt writing on spine. Gilt to top edge. Bumping to the book corners and to the head and to the heel of the spine. Bumping has also occurred to the top panel edge. Shelf wear to the lower book edges and the spine is somewhat sunned. Rubbing along the front and back gutter edges and the fore edges of the book. Scuffing and other marking is also present. Browning to the endpapers and internal pages. Original bookseller's sticker lower right-hand corner of the front paste down. Paper edges deckeled [uncut]. The main object of this book "... has been to give the life history of a primitive motive in the development of the race, and to emphasise the dynamic significance of this motive."
