Wheat, wool, dairying, manufacturing, coal, gold, etc., are explained by the author for schoolchildren, "the aim has been to defend the main facts without the intrusion of unnecessary detail, but with a view to their relative importance, and uniformed sufficiently interesting to be read to their own sake.". -- from the foreword page 3.
