preface and acknowledgements, list of illustrations, general bibliography and list of abbreviations, index. Black and white illustrated frontispiece, showing a portrait of Carlo Fontana aged 53. The text is illustrated with black and white illustrations of Carlo Fontana which are held at Windsor Castle, England. Dark blue coloured boards with gilt decoration and coloured titles to the spine. Illustrated the dustwrapper, showing a plan for an architectural embellishment by Carlo Fontana, with white coloured background and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Carlo Fontana (1638-1714), pupil of Bernini and teacher of James Gibbs, was the chief papal architect at the turn of the 18th century. The 783 drawings in the present catalogue, that are held in Windsor Castle, provide an insight into papal patronage. Minor shelf wear to the bottom edges of the book and dust marks to the top edges. The dustwrapper is somewhat "loose" around the book. The dust wrapper is rubbed and slightly faded. Grubby marks to the front and back panel and there is crinkling to the top dustwrapper edge.
