list of illustrations in colour, introduction by author, acknowledgements. Black and white photographic frontispiece, showing three native plants of the southern hemisphere. Within the text there are 44 coloured photographs and numerous black and white photographs. Red coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to be spine. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing plants from the southern hemisphere. Green insert with yellow and white and black coloured titles to the front panel and white and black coloured titles to the spine. In this book the author has selected plants from the southern hemisphere which are not only worthy garden subjects but also available for purchase and could be grown in various localities. The book is set out alphabetically with botanical names and accurate descriptions of the plants and finally practical advice for home gardeners of which plants to buy for their own localities. Countries included are South Africa, South America, New Zealand and Australia. The corners of book are slightly rubbed and there is rubbing and bumping to the corners. The head and the heel of spine are soft and bumped. Dust marks to the top paper edge, and there has been fading to the extreme edges of the book. Bookseller's sticker on the ffep. Throughout the book there are handling marks, most prevalent on the frontispiece and title page. The dustwrapper corners are rubbed and chipped. There is a piece missing from the top dustwrapper. There is a tear, closest to the spine measuring 1.5" x 1.5" [ragged edges], with loss also of the top part of the spine. The dustwrapper is very rubbed and very faded.
