KENNETH ANGER. Hollywood Babylon, New York: Bell Publishing, 1981. Quarto, American edition of a book that was first published in France in 1959, pp. 306, gold cloth-covered boards with black stamped lettering to the spine, halftone photos. A chronicle of stars behaving badly, from its salacious cover through its gossip-filled text. Breixo Viejo's "Film Books" says the American edition was published in 1965 and then "banished." "Stories of sex, drugs and murder are played here by the most glamorous cast" but its information is often inaccurate (Viejo 25.1.). The Jean-Marie Fonteneau design, adapted for "this edition by Anger, is a bit like a book-length tabloid newspaper. "To top it off, the famous dust jacket ... preludes the ironic appropriations of Hollywood imagery by Pop artists in the 1960s." Condition of this book: Jacket worn with a couple short tears, crease in flap. Overall very good and sound. Shipments outside the U.S. may be subject to local taxes. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
