The Battle of the Monkey and the Crab, Tokyo: Kobunsha, 1886. 12mo, early edition but priority unknown here, unpaginated with 9 leaves including the covers, color woodblock printing, small numeric notation on last leaf. This folded paper edition preceded the crepe printings that came in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in a series of small volumes that retold Japanese folk stories for the English-language market. Condition of this book: Curling at edges but no tears at paper folds; small dampstain on back cover. Size: 12mo. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
