Octavo, pp. x (580), full calf covers with contemporary backing including red morocco label, lacking title page and frontis world map. Includes five folding maps engraved by Neele: Africa, North America, South America, Asia, and Europe. Ownership signature on the front paste-down by James White of Lower Largo, Scotland, dated 1794. The maps are dated 1795 and 1796, indicating this volume is a rebinding that includes leaves that were not part of the original. Also with James White Jr.'s signature on the free rear endpaper, plus marginalia on the rear paste-down. ESTC 39852. Condition of this book: Spine and upper edges of covers darkened, probably by a leather treatment. A few preliminary pages have been expertly repaired but still show stains. Overall sound and good. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
