Thomas Baskett, 1760, Hardcover (Full Leather), Book Condition: Very Good, Dust Jacket Condition: No, Unstated
The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, Oxford: Thomas Baskett, 1760. 12mo measuring about 130x70mm, unpaginated, full brown calf with inlaid black oval monograms on front and back, gilt-stamped vase decorations on spine, marbled endpages, former owner's 1788 label on front paste-down (name is Mary Hall), in brown cloth-covered solander box. The front and rear blanks have been filled with manuscript poetry and some peculiar facts about the book by a Mrs. Joyce, likely one of the former owners and not an ordinary Bible student: She says this Bible contains 3,566,480 letters and the word Jehovah is used 6,855 times. Not in Darlow & Moule, but they list a very similar 1760 Baskett Bible in 2 volumes (Darlow & Moule 849). Text in double column. Condition of this book Some darkening to the preliminary leaves, overall very good and clean. Covers have a few minor blemishes; spine gilt is partly worn away. Size: 12mo. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
