KERTESZ, ANDRE. Distortions: New York: Knopf, 1976. Quarto, first edition, unpaginated with introductory text by Hilton Kramer and gravure plates, signed on the title page by Kertesz. Shows the results of a restoration of Kertesz's glass-plate negatives of images that were originally exhibited in the 1930s and then left in storage to deteriorate. The original showing caused a controversy in New York for the usual reasons involving prudes and politicians. These pictures reminded me of fun-house mirror images, but actually they grew out of Kertesz's impressions of swimmers' bodies moving through water. Condition of this book: Jacket good only, with tears and chips at edges, age toning. Book is fine. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
