Isaiah Thomas Jr, 1805, Hardcover, Book Condition: Good, Dust Jacket Condition: No, First
LINDLEY MURRAY. English Grammar, Worcester: Isaiah Thomas Jr., 1805. About 5.5x3.75 inches, pp. 107, 1 (ads), lacking free front endpaper, paper-covered boards quarter-bound in leather, former owner's name in various places. The printer was the son of Isaiah Thomas, early America's most eminent printer after Ben Franklin. Title page calls this book both an abridgement and and enlargement. Sabin didn't actually list the book but said it was highly popular on both sides of the Atlantic (see Sabin 51534). No matter how well it sold, it has become scarce, probably because it was passed from one group of students to the next until beaten into pulp. Condition of this book: Covers stained, wood exposed in some places, holding together, although both hinges are cracked. Tear in title page, foxed edges. First edition of the work in this format and binding, and/or set or series. Size: 16mo (very small). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is loose but fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Antiquarian & Rare; United States; 19th century; Children.
