LOUIS RAEMAKERS. Raemakers' War Cartoons, 2 volumes, New York: Century, 1917. Large, heavy folios, No. 395 of an edition of 1050, unpaginated with an introduction and 156 plates, green cloth boards with gilt lettering to spines and fronts, brown morocco labels on spines, original canvas dust jackets, signed on the limitation page by a Century executive. Raemakers was a Dutch artist and newspaper cartoonist who worked to get his native country to abandon its neutrality and join the war against Germany. He gave up the losing effort and joined the British-American propaganda machine, becoming highly popular in his new countries. The present books were released pretty much simultaneously with America's joining the war. They display one color cartoon per plate, tipped in, facing a page of commentary. Condition of this set: Dust jackets fraying at edges, discolored. A few stains inside but overall very good, images fine. Special Limited Edition, first issue in this format. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). 2-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Over 3 kilos.
