Farrar, 1956, Hardcover (Half Cloth), Book Condition: Very Good, Dust Jacket Condition: Good, First, Inscribed by Illustrator
JOHN LaFARGE. A Report on the American Jesuits, New York: Farrar, Straus and Cudahy, 1956. Octavo, first edition, pp. 237, gray paper-covered boards quarter-bound in black cloth with gilt lettering to spine, halftone photo plates. Photos by Margaret Bourke-White, inscribed by Bourke-White on a flyleaf to Edward R. Murrow, the much-lionized TV news broadcaster: "For Ed Murrow -- Don't miss the halo on the book jacket. Maggie." It's a jokey reference to the halo effect in the rear panel's picture of the photographer wearing a pith helmet while she is riding a donkey. The exchange came while both journalists were at high points in their careers. Condition of this book: Jacket chipped at edges with short tear in spine. Boards lightly worn at edges, overall very good. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Photography; United States; 1950s; Religion & Theology. Inscribed by Illustrator. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 54634.
