Octavo, priority unknown, pp. xi, 259; vii, 264, gray cloth boards with gilt lettering stamped to spines, top edges gilt, a modern binding with added endpapers. Story takes the form of a series of letters home from a hick in the city to his father. The author's actual identity was Ann Sophia Stephens, whose name a former owner wrote on the title pages here. She was a New York magazine editor credited with inventing the dime novel. The Slick pseudonym was first used by Seba Smith. See The Feminist Companion to Literature (Yale), pp. 1029-30.
