The Travels and Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen, New York: James Miller, 1864. 12mo, an early American edition, pp. 251, purple cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine, gilt ornament on front, blind-stamped decoration to front, back and spine, illustrated by Alfred Crowquill (Alfred Henry Forrester), 9 hand-colored plates, illustrations in text plus historiated initials and tailpieces. Former owner's ID and notes on free front endpaper, ID also on a flyleaf. The preposterous and satirical adventures of the baron were based on the fabrications of a German soldier of the 18th century. Condition of this book: Front hinge split, boards fading to brown, small losses of cloth at spine ends; clean. Size: 12mo.
