THE REV. JOHN TRUSLER. The Works of William Hogarth in two volumes, London: London Printing and Publishing Co., undated (1860s). Quarto, pp. iv, 3-146, 70 plates; iv, 147-280, 80 plates, contemporary gray cloth boards blind-stamped with a floral pattern and half-bound in red morocco with gilt lettering and ornamentation to spines, all edges gilt. With anecdotes by Hogarth's wife, Jane, and J. Nichols, and descriptions of the plates "with a comment on their moral tendency" by Trusler. Unusual color plate of The Milkmaid as frontis to V. 2. The publisher released various versions of this book during the 1860s, most of them in one volume, with different contributors. Condition of this set: Rubbing and other wear at extremities, scattered foxing, overall very good and sound. Size: Quarto. 2-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
