Octavo, first edition, pp. xxiv, 246, 16 (ads), illustrated boards, frontis portrait, illustrations in text, original trade binding by Edmonds & Remnants with their ticket on the rear pastedown. Many leaves unopened. Author was a daughter-in-law of Stothard and a well-known historical novelist. NCBEL 4 (Shattock) 888-889. Also see Feminist Companion to Literature, p. 133-34. As for Stothard, although he was elected to the Royal Academy as a painter, "he owes his continuing reputation largely to his illustrations," Gordon Ray wrote in The Illustrator and the Book in England (p. 19). He created thousands of images for various books and articles. Condition of this book: Edge wear to covers, losses of paper at spine ends, internally very good and sound. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
