Octavo, marbled paper-covered boards half-bound in light brown morocco with gilt lettering and ornaments to spine, five raised bands, extensive black-and-white illustration, all edges gilt. Comprises Volume VII of Children's Friend and Volume I of Infant's Magazine, plus three more issues from 1868. Inspirational content with striking illustration to grab the little ones' attention. The Children's Friend ran to 24 volumes and was translated from the French magazine by Berquin called L'Amis des Enfants (see Percy Muir's English Children's Books, p. 121). With unrelated illustrations laid in by a former owner. Condition of this book: Overall very good; boards' edges rubbed, one leaf loose, one with crayon marks, inoffensive. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
