With 1849 ownership signature on front and rear endpages -- James L. Houston. Written as a cheap alternative to the pricey travel guides that were out of reach for the English people most likely to emigrate. Author warns against the slave states because of their "polluted and polluting moral atmosphere." Condition of this book: Cloth worn away at joints. Front hinge cracked by binding sound. Foxing, mostly to preliminary leaves, minor soiling inside. Size: 16mo (very small). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting.
