Includes a second title page and a chapter on garden design. Hitchcock 274 lists this edition as the third of four (first was 1856). Karpel B233 for the first edition: "An important work covering the philosophy and value of a home, interiors, hints on construction, the improvement of grounds and gardens, and giving twenty-three designs, which are characterized by Vincent Scully as belonging to the second phase of the stick style." Condition of this book: Boards worn at extremities, spine ends chipped. Internal dampstaining, especially at preliminaries, but content unaffected. Overall good and sound. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
