BOURGEOIS, M. PAUL [editor]. Esthetique de la Photographie, Paris: Photo-Club de Paris, 1900. Folio, first edition, pp. 96, 6 (tables), 14 plates, original wrappers, rebound in blue cloth with decorative marbled paper on front and back, gilt lettering and decoration on spine with brown morocco label, regal bookplate on front pastedown, gift inscription on flyleaf. The Eastman House's "Imagining Paradise" says this book "can be considered the manifesto of the pictorialist movement in France. (p. 205)." It is an illustrated series of essays by members of the photo club including Demachy and Puyo, with gravures and halftones. "Two gravure plates are printed by Dujardin -- one work each by the uncontested masters Demachy and Puyo." The layout is an imaginative art-deco design with halftones in text. All text in French. Also see Roosens-Salu 8516. Condition of this book: Very good with wear at extremities, original paper front cover is loose but present, Puyo gravure shows minor flaking. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text is in French. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
