Large, heavy folio, first edition, pp. xii, 134, rust-colored cloth boards with gilt-stamped lettering on spine, and gilt-stamped lettering on upper panel inside gilt wreath, 128 illustrated plates including collotypes, halftones and plans, top edge gilt. The author was an architect and designer of formal gardens in England. This lavish book measures 44x35cm or 18x14 inches and weighs about 7 kilograms or 16 pounds. Gardens covered include eight each in Rome and Florence and gardens in Sicily, Lake Como villas, Isola Bella, Genoa, Pavia, Verona, Pescia, Milan, Siena, Villa Imperiali, Tivoli, Bagnaia, Caserta, Royal Palace of the Quirnal. Condition of this book Covers darkened in spots, extremities rubbed and chipped, crack to front joint but overall sound. Endpapers foxed, minor internal stains, nothing offensive. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
